A Marxist critique of "Olfactory Ethics" & commentary on Luigi Mangione
Foreword
This is essay a bit of an experiment in interrupting my monthly release schedule. I had a lot to say about the Olfactory Ethics thesis when it initially blew up but did not have the time to put it together before the moment waned. By the time I had gotten halfway through, UHC CEO Brian Thompson was assassinated and his alleged killer was caught just a few days later, burying Louks’s dissertation entirely. I doubt it will be resurrected to its previous viral peak, but all the same, there are still salient points I’d like to make. Simultaneously, there are many things to be said about Mangione and the online reaction to him. There is a connection between the two, if very abstracted from the people and the online moments in and of themselves.
